Hi all who listen to Brett and Suede, I have I strange question which has been buggin' me for a few days now. Where does the sound clip at the end of the song "The Asphalt World" come from? Is it from a movie or radio or what? I have been searching internet for it, but haven't found anything.

Does anyone have a clue?

Happy listening, Paul.

Right this is a tough one. I was thinking the other day about songwriting and "who owns What"?

In subject I consider the Tears song 'Berlin'. I presume that this was written in the normal Anderson/Butler way, with Bulter provided a pretty structured musical backdrop / chords at least that Brett wrote a top line over.

So, now that the Tears are defunct, why not get that brilliant "I count the times you hurt me...and all the shit you put me through" chorus out! OR can he? I mean the lines about flicking mane obviously ended up being in 'Back to You', but if he uses the melody of something in the same manner (even though he wrote the line) that came from a chord sequence by Butler does that then mean he can reuse it?

I realise that this is highly convoluted. But I'm sure Butler has in the past used old Suede stuff from his side of the bargain in his other projects, hasn't he? Still - Brett may not even like the song, but I know a lot of other people do.

We first heard about the jam sessions in January. Some more news about you and Leo working properly on songs in April and they were pouring out like honey in late July. Now you've given us a live preview of Unsung and most of us (who aren't anal about sound quality) are more than mildly exited about it.

The inevitable question is of course - is there any chance we'll get the final product before the end of the year?

so yeah, going back a bit..

about a week or two ago, whilst getting a bit desperate waiting for brett's new album, i was browsing though all his solo work on spotify.. i didnt see anything i didnt own, apart from a few tracks on the back to you ep. i listened to all of it as a whole, and the one that stood out was definitely the infinite kiss.. fast forward to today, and it definitely has been played a lot on my ipod.

but i was just thinking, what do we reckon its actually about?
i saw on songmeanings that "its just about sex". but im not too taken with that idea really,.. it just seems a lot of effort to go through, to simply have a song that says "this is sex"...

anyone have any thoughts?

This sounds very, very promising for the new sound, I like the almost Staccato like beat and you can defo hear the change from 'Slow Attack'.

I know it has been mentioned before...but surely with all this Suede re-vamping there is chance to big up Mr Brett?

I think us Suede/Brett fans (and I do say it in that order) are very hard to please. It is a bit like David Bowie fans in that sense - this need to actually ejaculate (male and female) over an audio experience. Come on. Well, maybe.

I think Brett, like Bowie, or Morrissey - or any great 'voice' - gets a harsher critique than the likes of the Manics, Verve / Ashcroft and certainly Oasis. Blur or the Gorillaz don't quite fid this medly as regardless of what some may think, Albarn is a pathetic using so called taste maker with enough money to throw at projects yet still make 'Mali Music' yet still not give a tuppence about Mali itself. Still, luck is a wondrous thing. Anyway...my point. Finally - Brett solo compilation, even just a promo thing for Scandanavia:

1. The Hunted
2. To The Winter
3. Chinese Whispers
4. Julian's Eyes
5. Swans
6. Ahshes of Us
7. P Marius
8. Back to You (Pleasure Version)
9. Song For My Father

Not at all interesting. Just a pointless observation. Still. I hope Brett got a fiver off it at least. Nice to hear his music being used. I mean that.

What do you think the reasons is that Brett don't sell as much records as some of those mainstream artist like let's say Lady Gaga? Not that I have anything against indie, I just wanna know your thoughts.

some nebulous news for you regarding the next opus. we've reached the next phase and the songs are pouring out like honey . we spent the last couple of weeks recording vocals and doing monitor mixes and have two good handfuls of tracks pretty much finished bar fine tuning and mixing. it's going to be a really dynamic record... everything was pretty much played live and you can really feel the energy. favourite tracks?... there's this huge, anthemic beast called 'Unsung', a pounding kind of Krautrock thing called 'Brittle Heart' , a damaged and desperate tale of entanglement and obsession called ' This Must Be Where it Ends' and a bitter -sweet pop song called ' Crash About to Happen' which reminds me of 1980's indie. we were listening to lots of PIL and Siouxsie when we were recording it so it's not surprising that the album has some of those flavours, although as i'd hope you'd expect it still sounds very much like me. for better of for worse i'm kind of trapped within myself and my own style and i suppose my quest is to slowly whittle my work down into the best version of that that i can.
working with Leo has again been a pleasure and a fantastic learning experience for me. he'll never take the easy option when making music and he's always looking for a twist . it's a commendable attitude to have in the powder-puff music industry and one which means that his work is always challenging and interesting. together i think we're making something special and i can't wait for people to hear it.
