i know i could ask natives to decipher words i can't make out, but even when i suppose they understand more than me, surely not to 100% accuracy. and i'd love to know them how they are.

please?

my suggestion is that you enjoy listening to the songs and wait until the CD and its artwork are printed and then you will be enjoying reading the lyrics even more as you leaf through the booklet. If anyone attempted to transcribe all these lyrics, it would be futile because the typo here and the mistake there would spoil it.

It adds to the mystery not to know everything just yet. What kind of artwork is going to fit this music. In fact, not having the lyrics right yet, drives the focus on the musicality of the album, the tone of voice, the melody of some words, the impression that songs make, the excellent cello, the nimble fingers running on the piano, these guitars textures. You will get the explanatory booklet soon enough.

Beautiful Rain asked for lyrics DKav not father preaching. What you enjoy doing doesn't mean that the rest of the planet enjoys too.

We already heard the album more than once most of us here. We already spoiled ourselves. I agree lets get some official lyrics.

Dkav there are only going to be a handful of people buying the CD who have got the USB stick or downloaded the album, almost everyone on this forum has got it now. If the CD is the same 9 songs then not many are going to pay over £10 for it just for a booklet with photos. An email went around yesterday with the lyrics on, these are not official just what a couple of people figured out.

A DIFFERENT PLACE

We sat under London skies on
A perfect June day.
I touched her hand
And whispered our names.

And all of the birds flew by and
The clouds blow away
The rose oil in her hair
And her infinite craze.

These are the thoughts
That take me
To a different place.

There are the words
That take me
To a different place.

And I gave her
A rose from my garden
And the petals
Blow away.

They look like confetti
On her
Beautiful face.

These are the thoughts
That take me
To a different place.

There are the words
That take me
To a different place.

These are the thoughts
That take me
To a different place.

There are the words
That take me
To a different place.

THE EMPRESS

Didn’t I try
To love her?
Didn’t I paint
Pictures of her?
Didn’t I try
To change?
I shouldn’t have bothered.

Didn’t I buy
The ocean for her?
Didn’t I wear
The colour (?)
Didn’t I feel
The wind?
Didn’t I plead?

She is strange
And sorrow.
She is
Like cherry blossom.
She is
The Empress.

Didn’t I kneel
Before her?
Didn’t I follow
Her orders?
Didn’t I clean
Her shit?
Didn’t I fall?

Didn’t I climb
The ladder?
Didn’t I smile
For the cameras?
Didn’t I feel
The wind?
Didn’t I plead? (? bleed)

She is strange
And sorrow.
She is
Like cherry blossom.
She is
The Empress.

She is strange
And sorrow.
With lips
Like cherry blossom.
She is
The Empress.

CLOWNS

Take a look at us
Hate where there was lust
A drip like honey.

Lust don’t mean a thing.
When all we do is shout and scream,
It’s almost funny

We're like clowns,
Tumbled into town now,
And love is on its way down now.
It’s such a lonely sound.

Mouths that once we exchanged,
Kisses in the rain
Are full of hate now.

It all seem so absurd,
When every sentence and every word
Is so painful.

Clowns,
Tumbling into town now,
And love is on its way down now.
It’s such a lonely sound.

Clowns,
Faces with painted frowns now.
Sat on a merry go round now
Such a lonely sound.

It’s such a lonely sound.

It’s such a lonely sound.

It’s such a lonely sound.

It’s such a lonely sound.

It’s such a lonely sound.

It’s such a lonely sound.

CHINESE WHISPERS

Don’t tap against my window.
Don’t listen at my wall.
Don’t ask for information.
As the answer's always no.

Collect me
From the station.
The blank departure
Board.

We'll talk in
Chinese whispers.
While the snow
Begins to fall
Painting Easter(?)
With the cold(?)

I don’t need you
But I want you.
I don’t want you
But I need you.

Ho-ho-ho.
Ho-ho-ho.

There is blossom
In the garden
On the magnolia
Tree.

The ivies are
Taking over
Where you planted
Rosemary
Where you planted
Rosemary.

I don’t need you
But I want you.
I don’t want you
But I need you.

Ho-ho-ho
Ho-ho-ho

Ho-ho-ho
Ho-ho-ho

Ho-ho-ho

BLESSED

With your mauve
Pillow.
And your laddered tights
With your neat
Covers.
And your midnight
Eyes.

With your sisters in
The suburbs.
With your ballerina’s
Grace.

You smile and
I am blessed.
You laugh and
I am possessed.

You climb
The clouds caress.
Yes, I am blessed.
Yes, I am blessed.

With your grey
Denim.
And your hostile(?)
life.
With your teeth
Missing.
And you mystic eyes.

With your tenderness
And trouble.
With your son
Against your breast.

You smile and
I am blessed.
You laugh and
I am possessed.

You climb
The clouds caress.
Yes, I am blessed.
Yes, I am blessed.

You smile and
I am blessed.
You lie and
I am dust.

And you ride
London’s wilderness.
Yes, I am blessed.
Yes, I am blessed.

FUNERAL MANTRA

We light the oil
And touch the beads.
The naked feel
Of rosary .

The fall of morning
On the lands.
The smell of incense
On our hands.

We kneel
Before the open grave.
And light
The candles with our pain.

Because all things
Will change.
Because they stay the same
We live again

We learn
The consequence of sin.
We roll our eyes
And touch our skin.

We feel
Eternity expressed
With every word,
With every breath.

We kneel
Before the open grave.
And light
The candles with our pain.

Because the seasons
Change.
Because they stay the same
We live again.

We kneel
Before the open grave.
And light
The candles with our pain.

Because all things
Will change.
And as your God explains,
We live again.

We live again.

We live again.

We live again.

BACK TO YOU

You flick your mane,
And click your fingers again,
And from your bed
You call my name.

And like a fool
I run right back to you
And dance along
To your latest tune.

And when the land slides
And when the planets die,
That’s when I come back,
When I come back to you.

And when the sun cools
And when the stars fall
That’s when I come back,
When I come back to you.

You roll those eyes
And trap my hand in your thighs.
It’s slavery but in disguise.

And like a fool
I run right back to you.
There is nothing else
That I can do.

And when the pigs fly
And when the planets die.
That’s when I come back,
When I come back to you.

And when the sun cools
And when the stars fall
That’s when I come back,
When I come back to you.

And when the war machines
Rust eternally
That’s when I come back,
When I come back to you.

And when your heart bleeds
For a love that’s dead like me,
That’s when I come back,
When I come back to you.

KNIFE EDGE

I think
I’ll call her number
Just one time.
If she calls back,
I don’t care.
She won’t mind.

I think
I kept her details
In my phone.
If I’ve lost them
I don’t mind.
She won’t know.

I think
I’ll call her.
Make amends
Perfect strangers
On a knife edge.

All it takes is
One excuse
To end the date.
Once the teams
Were introduced,
Slipped away.

I think
I’ll call her.
Make amends
Perfect strangers
On a knife edge.

I think
I miss her
And her pets
Perfect strangers
On a knife edge.

P MARIUS

As I sit and watch
The summertime,
And the shadow of
The cranes.
By the branches of
The cedar tree
And the beating of
The day.

You are the rose
Within my soul.
You are the reason
Why the wind blows.
By the meeting of
The roads
I will hold you
In my arms again.

And we'll sit under
The cedar tree
As the city
Fades away.
By the places
Where the blossom falls
And the shadow of
The cranes.

You are the rose
Within my soul,
You are the reason
Why the rain flows.
By the meeting of
The roads
I will hold you
In my arms again.

By the branches of
The cedar tree,
There's a bench
Beside the lake.
Take the bridge
Over the Serpentine,
And I'll see you
Once again.

There are a couple of amendments to that i've just been told. First 2 verses, whispered her name and infinite grace. I dunno it's a bit too painful to listen to again just yet, someone pass Brett the prozac

I don't get your attitude, so negative... it's almost as if you want no-one to buy it, like you're trying to convince people not to.

I look on the USB as a preview; it's not compulsory to buy the album if you have the USB stick, but I think it would be decent if some of those people who got a download were encouraged to buy the CD.

It's called speaking the truth, if it be negative or positive. Not allowed to post that on here are we, you get ripped apart unless you post what Brett wants to read. Yes hopefully the USB is a preview and the CD will have 12 or so songs on it. Again, being negative which I apologise to you for, it did say free copy of the album with every ticket, not preview.

I'm ordering it when it's released. Whether it's the same 9 tracks or an additional few or not. I support artists I admire.

Yeah likewise. I think anyone who got a free download here and likes even half the album should pay for the actual CD. I'm sure it'll be on sale for less than a tenner anyway.

People who have the USB have already paid for it. If they want to buy the CD then all power to them.

You think that was me ripping you apart? Gawd, we'll hope I never have to do that for real then...

No. I was meaning in general to some of my previous posts that's all.
What I don't get is why the USB stick contained the basic sound files which could just be copied and pasted anywhere. Why weren't they copy protected or only playable from the USB? Maybe each one could have been numbered and a licence obtained online to play them. That's what other bands have done.

Most of these things can be bypassed by a simple data recovery program tho...

and there's also Protected Music Converter and the like.

I would pay gladly for a booklet and photos. Beside music my passion is also the printed word and photography. A little booklet with some photographs from the 2008 section and the beautiful lyrics in print is worth a little expense. That photograph at the front of the website is amazing.

It wouldn't be the first time I buy an album twice.

The power of the lyrics in writing was demonstrated to me today. The Guardian printed a booklet of chosen Morrissey lyrics to demonstrate his song-writing skills. Seriously, I am not a fan of Morrissey but I read the words to "Suffer Little Children" without being distracted by his voice nor his music nor the people in his band, and I can say that these lyrics sold the song for me. Very often, I leaf through CD booklets and discover words that I compute with.

If the CD booklet is beautiful, then some people will look at it if they see it in the shop and maybe leaf through it and maybe find a song that they want to listen to.

I agree with Stylish that those who got the album for free via a link should buy the album or single tracks when they become available.

Stylish, so you don't think I should buy it? I like maybe two songs. I will buy it all the same. spineless knows why.

I think anyone who wants to buy it should buy it. Go crazy.
For those people who liked the album after getting it for free - I think they should buy it. Even just for purely logical reasons not specifically related to the ethical side of things. I mean...it should be pretty obvious that it's important for people to buy this album if they want to see another any time soon.

I like The Smiths because I like Johnny Marr and Mike Joyce. Meeting Mike Joyce in Manchester and him playing all these songs from that city made the music special to me. I've been buying music with Johnny Marr playing guitar for a long time because in the early 1990s he was fairly ubiquitous. I heard about Johnny Marr via Billy Bragg whose music I love. His song "Greeting to the New Brunette" is such a classic.

Im not one of those wizz kid people who know everything about computers and new technology and nor am I really interested in that side. Maybe it was kept simple so that anyone with a computer dating from 1800's - 2008 could play it?????? Just a simple answer from a simple person lol
